KUYA: BOTTLE LABEL
GRAPHIC DESIGN
This is the KUYA brand bottle label. For this project I combined my identity as a Filipino-American combined with my affinity for street wear. The label's main subject "kuya," which means older brother in Tagalog the language of the Philippines, is a symbol of kinship and admiration of the people that inspire us everyday. The vehicle behind him is a Jeepney, which is a symbol of resilience and adaptability in Filipino culture.

STORY BEHIND IT
My dad's family owned these public transportation vehicles in the Philippines. They were the main mode of transportation during that time and are still around today. They were used so much due to the poor public transportation. These vehicles came from surplus military vehicles left by the U.S. during WWII. They were able to take them and adapt them into transportation vehicles that have such interesting and wacky designs which is the reason for the bold illustration.
